Natural Hair | Info on Oils

When it comes to maintaining your curly hair, you may be seeing lots of products weighing it down. Sometimes it better to leave the products alone and go for an oil. But, maybe you do that already... is it the right one for your curls though? It can be confusing to know which one may work best for your hair. Here's a quick guide to find out.
These are not all the oils just a few I get asked about often.

Coconut Oil
  • Light and non-greasy
  • Penetrates the hair shaft
  • Can be used by all hair types
Olive Oil
  • Conditions hair
  • Seals moisture in
  • Great for hot oil treatment
  • Great for pre-poo treatment
Note: If you have finer hair you may want to use just a small amount, it's kind of heavy.
Castor Oil
  • Seals moisture in
  • Heavier oil great for tighter coils
  • Helps regain thickness around thinning hairlines
  • Too much can leave your hair heavy and weighed down
Note: Another type of castor oil is the Black Jamaican Castor Oil. It can be used for hair growth as well as protect and seal your ends.
Grape Seed Oil
  • Super light, moisturizing
  • Increases manageability
  • Strengthens each hair strand
  • Combats dry scalp and dandruff
  • Works as a natural heat protectant
Note: Grape seed oil can actually be used as a thermal protection when blow drying or flat ironing. Apply a bit throughout the hair before applying heat to give your hair added shine and protection.

Aloe Vera Oil
  • Helps with cancer prevention
  • Can work as a great pre-poo
  • Promotes hair growth
  • Reduces hair dandruff
Tea Tree Oil
  • Cleanses and purifies your scalp
  • Stimulates hair growth
  • Leaves hair feeling soft
Avocado Oil
  • Strengthens hair
  • Contains vitamin E
  • Natural sunscreen
  • Helps with dandruff
